        马尼拉最著名的十大泰国餐厅:
        10. SOMS Noodle House

For the loyal supporters of SOMS, you’ve seen it upgrade from a dingy hole-in-the-wall eatery into a mom-and-pop kind of restaurant. It still doesn’t have the most impressive interiors even after the makeover, but it has always had everything you’ll ever need for when you find yourself longing for Thai food. The best part is, you can order as much from its menu without feeling like you broke the bank.

        SOMS Noodle House
Photo from Denise J.’s looloo review for SOMS Noodle House
You can’t miss out on SOMS’ Pad Thai. The soft noodles, perfectly cooked squid, and sweet-salty-sour sauce will make you want to keep on taking bite after bite. Others favorites here are the Bagoong Rice, Spicy Squid, and Green Chicken Curry. Wash your meal down the Thai way with a bottle of their Milk Tea!

SOMS Noodle House can be found at 5921 A. Algier St., Rockwell Center, Makati and at 1766 N. Garcia St. cor. Milagros St., Makati.

        9. Nav Modern Thai

This restaurant along Kapitolyo knows how to serve up a Thai feast but it doesn’t forget about the local palate. Its dishes have all the flavors that make them unmistakably Thai but you’ll notice that they’re made to be a little bit sweeter and have incorporated familiar ingredients found in Filipino homes.

Photo from Karla L.’s looloo review for Nav Modern Thai Cuisine
Some of their appetizers created with a twist are the Son-in-Law Eggs, a deep-fried egg dish served in Tamarind sauce, and the Tom Yum Goong, a broth heavy on sour flavors reminiscent of our very own Sinigang but with hints of lemongrass.

For their main entrees, Nav’s Chicken Curry is a popular choice on looloo. Why hasn’t anyone thought of putting fried chicken in homemade curry sauce earlier?

Nav Modern Thai can be found at 16-C United St., Kapitolyo, Pasig, Metro Manila.

        8. Simply Thai

Simply Thai isn’t as simple as we think it might be. Its refined interiors create an elegant atmosphere, making this place perfect for a sophisticated date night or a fancy rendezvous. And its menu, a mix of both classic Thai staples and creative fusion dishes, present bold flavors and textures that keep the taste buds guessing.

Photo from Simply Thai’s Facebook Page
Ruth S. in her looloo review raved about her order of Phuket Sarong, tiger prawns wrapped in dragon noodles and then deep-fried to a crisp, saying every crunchy bite was packed with flavor. The Cinnamon Pork Ribs is another popular choice for its tender meat with a zesty, sweet rub. For a sweet ending, finish off your meal at Simply Thai with an order of their famous Mango Sticky Rice topped off with rich coconut milk.

Simply Thai can be found on the G/F in Greenbelt 5 mall, Legazpi St., Ayala Center, Makati, Metro Manila.

        7. Thai Dara

Some first-timers at Thai Dara find themselves here because their usual go-to restaurant in the area has run out of space, leaving them to wander the streets in search for another place to eat. But discovering this unassuming gem is one of the best things that can happen to you in Kapitolyo. Thai Dara may be a tiny, little thing, but as the old adage goes, big things come in small packages.

Photo from Angela C.’s looloo review for Thai Dara
If you’re a fan of the classic Pad Thai dish, you’re in luck because this place serves up some of the best in Metro Manila. The noodles, coated in sweet-tangy sauce, are firm to the bite and toppings of alamang, tofu, leaks, and ground peanuts are added in generously for a filling meal.

If you’re worrying about authenticity, it might comfort you to know that two Thai chefs run the kitchen here, so you know you’re getting the real deal! Other popular orders are the Bagoong Rice and the Tom Yum Soup.

Thai Dara can be found at 23 East Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig, Metro Manila.

        6. Benjarong Royal Thai Restaurant

At Benjarong Royal, you get a Thai banquet fit for royalty. Nestled inside the 5-star Dusit Thani hotel, you get to fulfill your far-fetched dreams of becoming a king or a queen because in here, you’ll feel like you’ve got highborn blood running through your veins.

Servers decked out in traditional silk costumes will welcome you, and as you indulge in your meal, you get serenaded by the soft strummings of a khim player.

To begin your feast, the Yam Som O is a popular appetizer recommendation. Charlene N. in her looloo review said that the succulence of the shrimp is perfectly complemented by the bursts of citrusy flavors of the pomelo and the tanginess of the fish sauce dressing. You also can’t go wrong with the salty and sour Yam Pla Duk Foo, a green mango salad mixed with crispy, fried catfish.

For your main dishes, a helping of the Gaeng Khieo Wan Gung (green prawn curry) and Gai Hor Bai Toey (marinated boneless chicken wrapped in pandan leaves) over a steaming hot platter of Khao Phad Sapparod (pineapple rice) should leave you royally stuffed.

Benjarong Royal Thai Restaurant can be found on the G/F of Dusit Thani Manila hotel, Hotel Drive, Ayala Center, Makati, Metro Manila.

        5. Basil

It might feel like you’ve stepped into some kind of a spa, but the dim lights, the lush greenery, and the soothing waterfall sounds are all part of Basil’s strategy to charm you. What used to be a garden supply storage space was revamped into a restaurant, leaving behind traces of the old structure for an interesting ambiance.

This cozy, laid-back nook, set amid all the louder restaurants in White Plains, Katipunan, is where you need to be if you want good conversation to go along with good food.

Basil takes the Thai fare seriously and sticks to traditional ingredients and methods of cooking to prepare its dishes. There are no short cuts here, as even the spices are pounded by hand for the most authentic flavors. Their signature dish is the Crispy Fish with Three-Flavored Sauce.

A whole Lapu-Lapu is deep fried and topped off with tamarind, garlic, and chili sauces. Other favorites here are the Wagyu Beef with Holy Basil, the Grilled Pork Ribs with Honey, and the Chicken Green Curry.

Basil can be found on Katipunan Ave. cor. White Plains Ave., White Plains, Quezon City, Metro Manila.

        4. Thaipan

If there were an award for most attractive restaurant in Tomas Morato, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thaipan took home the trophy. It may be off the beaten track but the people who do find it are wowed by its interiors.

        Thaipan
Photo from Jayne Marie W.’s looloo review for Thaipan
It gets its good looks from its co-owners who are interior designers by profession and they’ve spruced up the once ordinary bahay to become the charmer it is today. To boot, it’s got a warm and welcoming vibe that reflects the Thai hospitality.

Fans of Thai curry will get a kick out of this place because Thaipan’s menu offers the dish in different permutations. For the meat, you can choose between beef, chicken, and pork and have it either in green, yellow, red, or panang curry sauce in mild, medium, or spicy. For other entrees, the Pla Lad Prik Sam Ros (deep-fried fish fillet flavored in tamarind sauce), Pad Thai, and Tom Yum Kung are some their house specialties.

Thaipan can be found at 120 Sct. Dr. Lazcano St., Quezon City, Metro Manila.

        3. People’s Palace

We’ve seen plenty of food establishments come and go in Greenbelt, but People’s Palace has withstood the test of time and has gone on to prove that foodies with discerning palates choose quality over trends.

        People's Palace
Photo from Kriya L.’s looloo review for People’s Palace
Having been in business since 2005, this restaurant keeps the crowd coming back for its modern Thai cuisine, whether it’s for weekly family Sunday lunches, celebrations for special occasions, or simply to give in to your belly’s cravings for filling, flavorful food.

When told that she was missing half of her life for not having tried People’s Palace yet, Aix M. in her looloo review said that when she finally did, the food exceeded her expectations by a mile.

For a refreshing way to awaken your taste buds, start of with the Prawn, Pomelo, and Coconut Salad or the Spicy Glass Noodle Salad. When you’re ready for the main show, you won’tgo wrong with an order of the Pork and Green Peppercorn, the meat said to be tender and well-seasoned. Other easy favorites are the Tom Yum Goong, the Pad Thai, and the Chicken Stir-Fry with Holy Basil.

People’s Palace can be found on the G/F of Greenbelt 3 mall, Makati Ave. cor. Esperanza St., Ayala Center, Makati, Metro Manila

        2. Mango Tree Bistro

Its dim lights and urban-industrial interiors make Mango Tree Bistro a perfect date night place with your significant other or a chill hangout spot to take your girlfriends out. But with its modern ambiance and ambiguous name, who would’ve guessed that this restaurant serves Thai cuisine.

        Mango Tree Bistro
Photo from Jam V.’s looloo review for Mango Tree Bistro
You’d only realize this when you start reading the menu and can’t understand a thing because it’s in a foreign language. It’s a good thing then that the wait staff here are plenty knowledgeable and can help us debunk the dishes and pick out our orders.

The Phad Phak Ka Na, a dish of stir-fried kale, and the Chicken Satay served with a side of peanut sauce are tasty ways to start your meal here. For your main course, there are endless possibilities to choose from, starting with the classics like the Pad Thai, Green Chicken or Pork Curry, and Chicken on Lemongrass Skewers. But if you like your Thai food with a bit of a familiar twist, there are dishes like Siam Sisig and Thai Ribs Adobo to satisfy the Filipino palate.

Mango Tree Bistro can be found at on the G/F at Bonifacio High Street Central, 7th Ave. cor. 28th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Metro Manila.

        1. Krung Thai

Sometimes, it’s the humble, quiet ones that actually have the most to brag about. Krung Thai has been sitting quietly in its spot beside the Marikina Public Market for over a decade now. And while most of us won’t even give it a second glance, the few who do try it are given an experience a fancy, upscale food establishment wouldn’t be able to duplicate.

        Krung Thai
Photo from Laurika O.’s looloo review for Krung Thai
Much in the same way, you won’t find the best food in Thailand inside restaurants and hotels. They’re always in food hawkers or along the streets where the true locals are!

Krung Thai may be tiny but it’s got a generous heart, serving up dishes that are big enough for sharing but are friendly to the wallet. And the head chef behind the food here is a Thai native (he married a Marikeña and decided to set up shop in her hometown) so there’s no doubting the authenticity of the dishes that come out of his kitchen.

The Krung Thai Fried Chicken, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, is one of their bestsellers and is best eaten alongside a steaming mound of their Thai Bagoong Rice. Other well-loved entrees off the menu are the Tom Yam Seafood, Chicken Panda, and Catfish with Green Mango Salad.

Krung Thai can be found on the 1/F of the Marikina Public Market, W. Paz St. cor. M. Cruz St., Sta. Elena, Marikina, Metro Manila.

*This list has been updated to include SOMS Noodle House. It initially had Silk Road Thai Bistro in the #10 spot but said restaurant is now closed.
