The UK Gambling Commission’s (UKGC) latest Gambling Survey for Great Britain shows that lottery remains the top vertical for players in the country.
The Great British regulator’s 2024 Wave 2 results show overall participation in gambling in the last four weeks was 48% – unchanged from throughout 2023.
Gambling participation was 28% without lottery draws, which was the only form of participation for 20% of people.
The latter figure and cohort were stable but down 1% on Wave 1 2024.
There was an increase in the popularity of betting in Wave 2 compared to Wave 1. In its list of the most popular verticals, betting was 12% in Wave 2 compared with 9% in Wave 1.
The online gambling participation rate fell slightly from Wave 1 to Wave 2 this year by 1% to 37%.
When lottery players are removed, this falls to 16% – up 1% on the 17% recorded on the same metric in Wave 1.
The in-person gambling participation rate was the same in both waves this year – 29%.
