    Key points:

    - Eight participants aged 18-35 completed Grosvenor Casino’s four-week Gaming Academy, mastering skills in blackjack, poker and roulette

    - The academy stressed responsible gambling practices and taught essential workplace skills such as customer service and teamwork

    - This initiative follows a year of growth for Grosvenor Casino’s parent company, Rank Group, which reported a 9% rise in net gaming revenue in June 2024

Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen has announced the successful completion of its Gaming Academy, a four-week intensive training program for eight local job seekers.

The initiative aimed to prepare participants for roles as professional croupiers by providing hands-on training in popular casino games such as roulette, poker and blackjack.

The trainees, aged between 18 and 35, underwent training to master essential skills, including calculating roulette payouts using the 35 times tables and improving their dexterity to handle chips and cards efficiently.

In addition, the academy reportedly focused on customer service, teamwork and responsible gambling practices, equipping participants with broader skill sets for the workplace.

Lewis Wilson, a 24-year-old participant, said: “My time at the gaming academy was unforgettable. It was challenging at times because I was always learning something new, but it was a blast. There was a lot to remember with the variety of games, but we were all learning together and the other trainees made the whole experience a memorable one.”

Good to know: Trainees were educated on safeguarding practices to promote responsible gaming and support casino guests effectively

Lynne Cooper, Gaming Operations Manager at Grosvenor Casino Aberdeen, added: “We have a strong track record for providing training opportunities for our city’s job seekers to upskill and join our team.

"A career as a casino dealer is a highly skilled profession which offers flexible working hours and the chance to travel the world and host games for high-net-worth players and at major tournaments.”

The Rank Group, Grosvenor’s parent company, recently reported a 9% year-on-year increase in net gaming revenue for the financial year ending June 2024. This growth was accompanied by the appointment of Chris Edgington as Chief Marketing Officer in September.
