With some people still receiving marketing from illegal casinos despite being on the self-exclusion register, a team of journalists has suggested this is due to a leak in the Spelpaus system.

The Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has published a statement refuting claims that it has suffered any kind of data breach or leaked information.
The authority directly named the Kasinoläckan (The Casino Leak) documentary, which aired on the P1 radio channel on 7 January, as the source of the claims.
A summary for the documentary says: “A data leak opens the doors to the hidden gambling industry. At hundreds of banned online casinos, Swedish gambling addicts can lose millions. And the Swedish Gambling Authority is tied behind its back.”
According to the Sveriges Radio site, Kasinoläckan is part of an “international collaboration with investigative journalists in several countries” and is financially supported by the Investigative Journalism for Europe (IJ4EU) fund.
Good to know: The Swedish Gambling authority is aware that some players on Spelpaus, the self-exclusion register, are still receiving marketing from illegal sites and are actively investigating the matter
However, the Swedish Gambling Authority has said that it “has not had any data breach… nor does it have any evidence that information is ‘leaked’ from the register.”
The authority goes on to explain that all of the information on the Spelpaus is encrypted and therefore “there is no information about whether the person who has ‘switched off’ is a gambling addict or not.”
There is also no information about an individual's address or phone number stored on the Spelpaus.
As for casinos operating in Sweden without a licence, the Spelinspektionen recently banned Versus Odds BV from operating any of its brands in the country, including fortunepanda6.com, artcasino.io and bet-nox.com.
